Renfield’s Syndrome also known as Clinical Vampirism was named after the character Renfield in Bram Stoker's Dracula, and is a psychiatric disorder in which the sufferer feels a compulsion to consume blood. People who suffer from this condition are primarily male and often have the delusion of actually being a vampire and feeling the need for blood to obtain supernatural powers and sexual arousal. According to current psychiatric terminology, Renfield's Syndrome is classified as schisophrenia or paraphilia.

The following are the short descriptions of the most noteworthy “Vampire Killers” in the history:
  • Elizabeth Báthory, the “Countess Dracula” was the countess of the Kindom of Hungary, today’s Slovakia and probably the first person (or female) recorded as a serial killer who have committed crimes motivated by blood. She was imprisoned for life for torturing and killing of countless young girls. She was rumored have drank and bathed in the blood of her young victims in order to gain the eternal youth and beauty. It is said that Bram Stoker was highly inspired by her story when he was working on Dracula.
  • Fritz Haarmann, the “Hanover Vampire” was a thief, burglar, con artist and pedophile from Germany and believed to have been responsible for the murder of 27 young boys between 1918 and 1924. He used to take young starving boys on the street to his home and put them to sleep from a large meal, and while sexually harrasing them, killed them and tasted their blood to achieve orgasm. He would then cut the flesh from their bodies, consume some of it and sell the rest on the open market as butchered meat. Fritz Lang’s M was inspired by the crimes of this man.
  • Roderick Ferrell is originally from Murray, Kentucky who had gotten involved with a fantasy role-playing game called Vampire: The Masquerade. Since he wanted something more edgy, he formed The Vampire Clan and started calling himself a 500-year-old vampire named Vesago. On Thanksgiving Day 1996, when he was only 16, he killed the parents of a former girlfriend. He is sentenced to life in prison
  • Marcello Costa de Andrade, Brazil's most famous serial killer, grew up in a Slum in Rio de Janeiro. At the age of 10, he was sexually abused by his stepfather. At the age of 14, he began to prostitute himself for a living. At the age of 24, over a nine-month period in 1991, he killed 14 young boys. Prior to his murder, he firstly “fall in love” with the boys and then abducted them and often sexually abused them. He later admitted that he sometimes drank their blood “to become as beautiful as them.” He also confessed, "I preferred young boys because they are better looking and have soft skin. And the priest said that children automatically go to heaven if they die before they're thirteen. So I know I did them a favor by sending them to heaven."
